The Pareto Principle, aka the 80/20 rule, is also applicable to content marketing on social media, which is all about adding value to your online communities.
A good rule of thumb is to post 80 per cent educational content and 20 per cent promotional content.
This means that 80 per cent of your content would be things such as: thought-provoking blogs (written or video); sharing tools, tips and templates; offering a new perspective on a well-debated topic; commenting on a news item; posting a cartoon, infographic or inspiring quote; sharing links to interesting third-party articles; and the like.
And 20 per cent of your content would be about your product or service and the value you bring in solving a specific customer problem, challenge or pain point.
It all starts with a serve-before-sell mindset.
